Movement is often accompanied by spoken text in dance drama. Throughout human history, both dance and drama have played an important role. Drama and ritual have always been integral parts of the Indian subcontinent’s culture since antiquity. Early evidence of ritual dance drama can be found in the rock paintings of Mirzapur, Bhimbetka, and in other sites that are dated 20,000–5000 bce. Rabindranath Tagore is largely credited to create modern Bengali dance drama. Tagore’s dance dramas, such as Chandalika, Shyama, and Chitrabgada, use dances set to beautiful songs to illustrate humanism.

Our endeavor at KS Productions is to showcase Indian dance drama’s rich heritage through our productions.
